- FIFA is launching an EVM-compatible blockchain to host NFTs and boost fan engagement.
- FIFA Collect will migrate from Algorand starting no earlier than May 20.
- No action needed yet; FIFA will share clear migration instructions.
FIFA will release its Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible blockchain, which the organisation will use to host digital collectables and enrich fan engagement experiences. On April 30, globally, the game’s governing body announced the strategic shift of the Web3 infrastructure, which came to pass.
FIFA Blockchain to Improve Performance and Scalability
According to the official statement, the forthcoming “FIFA Blockchain” will improve performance, enhance scalability, and support upcoming features. The platform will support many decentralized applications and wallets used in the Ethereum ecosystem using EVM compatibility.
FIFA plans to move FIFA Collect from its address on the Algorand blockchain to the brand new FIFA Blockchain as part of the initiative. FIFA assures users that specific instructions will be issued before the move, starting no earlier than May 20.
No Immediate User Action Required for Migration
The announcement said no immediate action was needed at this stage. If we start the migration process, we will mention what actions you should take in some languages and provide clear, step-by-step instructions on what (if anything) you should or should not do.
When the migration has been completed via FIFA Collect, third-party Algorand-based wallets such as Pera and Defly will be incompatible with FIFA Collect. Users will instead need to access their assets from MetaMask or any EVM-compatible wallet supporting WalletConnect.
FIFA also stated that the collectables listed on the platform will migrate automatically to the new blockchain platform unless the users decide to delist them before the migration date. It said it would provide additional updates in the coming weeks and a confirmed migration timeline.
